In a heartwarming public display of affection, Hollywood icon Tom Hanks took to social media on Sunday to celebrate his wife, Rita Wilson’s, birthday. The two-time Oscar winner shared a radiant photo of Wilson in a black swimsuit, seemingly enjoying a sun-drenched vacation.
Hanks’s concise yet poignant caption read, “This beautiful woman celebrates her birthday TODAY. She is beloved by her husband. Happy Birthday, @ritawilson!”
This sweet tribute is a testament to the couple’s enduring bond, now spanning over 37 years of marriage. Wilson herself marked their anniversary in May with a loving post, stating, “Happy 37th Anniversary my love!!!”
Over the years, both Hanks and Wilson have openly shared insights into their strong partnership. In a 2013 interview, Hanks described every day with Wilson as a “blast” and “fun,” adding, “I must say that when I met Rita, I thought, ‘Oh, this is what it’s supposed to be like when you are married to somebody. It’s supposed to be this carefree and easy and, you know, oddly enough, weighty.'”
Wilson, reflecting on the foundation of their relationship, told fashion designer Tom Ford in 2014, “Commitment isn’t hard. I never doubt the commitment.
But things come up in life. Everyone has hardship and loss.
But commitment is the foundation. There is such value in the depth of your relationships, your friendships, your marriage, your children, all of that.
To me, that’s what makes you feel safe to go out and pursue the things that are more risky.”
The couple’s journey began on the set of the sitcom Bosom Buddies in 1981, though their romance truly blossomed when they reconnected for the 1985 film Volunteers.
Beyond her role as a beloved wife, Rita Wilson is a talented artist in her own right, with a diverse career in film, television, and music. She has released six studio albums, and just this week, she offered fans a nostalgic glimpse into her 2016 self-titled album. Wilson shared a clip from her music video for “Forgiving Me, Forgiving You,” the fourth track on the album, accompanied by a thoughtful caption:
“I wrote this song with Darrell Brown nearly ten years ago, and it remains one of my favorites to this day,” she posted. “Forgiveness is powerful.
It can make anger, hatred, pain dissolve. I read something the other day which said forgiveness is like bits of string you cut that eventually free you.
I liked the idea that it’s not an ax to the process of letting go but gentle strings that drop from our hands.”
Her most recent album, Now & Forever: Duets, released in September 2022, features a collection of 70s-era cover songs performed with an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Willie Nelson, Josh Groban, and Keith Urban.
