Hollywood royalty graced the runway at Vogue World: Hollywood on Sunday, as legendary actress Angela Bassett made a surprise appearance, channeling her formidable character, Queen Ramonda, from Marvel’s “Black Panther.” The event, a grand celebration of the intersection of fashion and film, saw models and actors showcasing iconic movie costumes alongside high-fashion couture.

Bassett, 67, exuded an undeniable regal aura as she stepped onto the runway, reprising her beloved role. Her head-turning ensemble, designed by Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E.

Carter, featured a structured gown in royal shades of purple, black, and gold-colors synonymous with the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda. The sculptural silhouette perfectly balanced power and grace, a true reflection of Queen Ramonda’s unmatched poise and command.

Fans were quick to express their admiration, flooding social media with praise for Bassett’s majestic presence. Comments like “BOW DOWN TO THE QUEEN,” “The Queen has ARRIVED,” and “Queen Mother Forever!”

highlighted the collective awe inspired by her appearance. Many also lauded her “elegance” and “majestic energy,” with one user simply stating, “Epitome of beauty.”

Ruth E. Carter, who won an Oscar in 2019 for her costume design in the MCU film, meticulously crafted Bassett’s “Black Panther” look.

Carter’s extensive research into traditional practices and aesthetics of various African tribes informed her designs, bringing the vibrant world of Wakanda to life. “We created lots of mood boards that showed you the different indigenous tribes and what that look like,” Carter shared in a 2013 interview, explaining how she selected elements from “eight or 12” of Africa’s thousands of tribes to represent Wakanda.

Bassett herself earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Queen Ramonda. In her heartfelt acceptance speech, she paid tribute to her late co-star, Chadwick Boseman, who played her son, King T’Challa.

“He was just a source of great inspiration for all of us,” she remarked, emphasizing his spiritual presence on set. “He was with us, every single day.

Even when it got difficult or hard or things sort of fell apart along the way, you knew that you couldn’t sit down. You couldn’t rest.

You couldn’t give up because we had had an example set for us.” She concluded by expressing her immense pride in accepting the award as Chadwick’s “mother and colleague.”
