Republican Lawmakers Call for NYC Mayoral Candidate’s Deportation Amid Rising Poll Numbers
New York, NY – As early voting for the NYC mayoral race gets underway, a contentious political battle is unfolding, with two Republican congressmen publicly challenging the citizenship of leading candidate Zohran Mamdani. Rep.
Randy Fine (R-Fla.) and Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), both known for their history of anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant rhetoric, have called for Mamdani’s deportation, alleging he concealed socialist beliefs in his citizenship application.
These claims, currently unfounded, echo similar questions raised about former President Barack Obama’s birth status in 2016.
The accusations against Mamdani come as he continues to gain momentum in the polls, positioning himself as a strong contender in the mayoral race.
“Immigrant Invasion” and Calls for Investigation
Rep. Ogles has previously drawn attention for his strong stance on immigration.
In May, he criticized Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell, accusing him of allowing an “immigrant invasion” during a Memorial Day press conference. This followed Ogles’ earlier chastisement of Mayor O’Connell for pushing back against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents who reportedly detained 196 individuals.
Mayor O’Connell had demanded information regarding the arrests and specific charges.
Ogles vowed that both the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security and the U.S. House Judiciary Committee would investigate Mayor O’Connell for his perceived defiance of the ICE raids.
“Little Muhammad” and Citizenship Challenges
Following Mamdani’s primary victory in June, Rep. Ogles escalated his campaign against the mayoral candidate. He publicly requested Attorney General Pam Bondi launch an investigation into Mamdani’s citizenship, alleging that Mamdani concealed “support for terrorism” and should be stripped of his U.S. citizenship.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ogles wrote, “Zohran ‘little Muhammad’ Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York. He needs to be deported.”
Neither Bondi nor the White House immediately confirmed whether the Justice Department would act on this request. When questioned about the claims, former President Trump stated that Mamdani should “be arrested” if the allegations proved true.
“Hamas Caucus” and Accusations of Bigotry
Meanwhile, Rep. Randy Fine has also faced criticism for what many describe as anti-Muslim bigotry.
In July, Fine sparked controversy with an X post that appeared to suggest Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was a terrorist.
This comment came after Omar criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating he “should be held accountable for his crimes” related to actions in Gaza.
In response, Fine wrote: “I’m sure it is difficult to see us welcome the killer of so many of your fellow Muslim terrorists. The only shame is that you serve in Congress.”
Numerous Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, called for an apology from Fine. However, Fine responded with another insult, stating, “The Hamas Caucus is upset.
Boo hoo. I guess they weren’t listening when I said the Hebrew Hammer was coming.”
“Gaza Must Be Destroyed” and Extreme Rhetoric
Rep. Fine’s anti-Palestinian rhetoric has been so pronounced that some Democrats have attempted to introduce censorship legislation to curb his outspoken comments. Fine has made extreme statements without apparent opposition from within his own party.
During the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Fine has publicly supported the destruction of the region, making comments that many consider to be beyond ethical boundaries. In one post, Fine explicitly wrote that “Gaza must be destroyed.” Other posts included directives for people in Gaza to “eat rockets” and utilized hashtags such as #Bombsaway and #Starveaway.
