Lost Seuss Manuscript Discovered, Set for Publication!

Great news for Dr. Seuss fans!

A previously unseen manuscript by the beloved author, titled *Sing the 50 United States! *, has been unearthed and is slated for publication by Random House Children’s Books.

The exciting discovery was made earlier this year within the archives of UC San Diego’s Geisel Library. The manuscript, complete with cover sketches by Theodor Seuss Geisel himself, was officially announced by Random House on Tuesday.

“Uncovering a new work from Ted is like finding a time capsule of his imagination,” shared Susan Brandt, president and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises.

*Sing the 50 United States! * is expected to hit shelves next June with an initial print run of 500,000 copies.

According to Random House, the book will invite readers to “learn and name all fifty states together with the iconic Cat in the Hat and two Little Cat helpers.” Brandt emphasized that the work celebrates Geisel’s “boundless creativity, genius with words and enduring ability to inspire young readers everywhere.”

Adding to the excitement, Dr. Seuss Enterprises will also release a special music video to accompany the book on the Dr.

Seuss YouTube channel. “We’re honored to share this new Dr.

Seuss treasure with readers across America during such a meaningful milestone year,” Brandt added.

The prolific author, Theodor Seuss Geisel, passed away in 1991 at the age of 87. This isn’t the first time a lost Seuss work has surfaced; in 2015, What Pet Should I Get was also discovered.

“Finding an original Dr. Seuss story is something we dream of,” said Judith Haut, RHCB’s EVP and deputy publisher, who oversees the Dr. Seuss publishing unit.

It’s worth noting that in 2021, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced it would cease publication of six specific Seuss books due to “hurtful and wrong” portrayals, following expert reviews.
