Four Charged in Daring Louvre Heist; $102 Million in Jewels Still Missing
Parisian authorities have formally charged two more individuals this week in connection with last month’s audacious robbery at the Louvre Museum, bringing the total number of people facing charges to four. The latest suspects, a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, have been charged with organized robbery and conspiracy to commit organized robbery and are currently being held in custody. Both have denied their involvement in the high-profile theft.
The new charges follow the earlier arrests and formal charging of two other individuals in the ongoing investigation.
The dramatic heist, which occurred on October 19, saw four masked thieves snatch eight pieces of jewelry, valued at a staggering $102 million, from the world-renowned museum. The entire operation reportedly took a mere seven minutes, sparking a national outcry and a widespread manhunt across France.
While arrests have been made, the stolen jewels have yet to be recovered.
In a related development, prosecutors confirmed that three of the five individuals initially arrested on October 29 have since been released from custody.
The initial arrests last week saw one suspect apprehended at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport as they attempted to board a flight to Algeria. A second suspect was detained while preparing to travel to Mali.
The investigation into the daring daylight robbery remains active and ongoing.
