Katherine McPhee Celebrates Husband David Foster’s 76th Birthday with Sweet Family Video
Singer and actress Katherine McPhee recently shared a heartwarming glimpse into her family life, celebrating her husband, legendary record producer and composer David Foster’s 76th birthday. The couple, who tied the knot in 2019, are parents to their 4-year-old son, Rennie, and are often seen balancing their busy music careers with family time.
McPhee, who first gained prominence as a runner-up on American Idol and later starred in the NBC series Smash and made her Broadway debut in Waitress, posted a sweet video on her Instagram stories. The clip featured McPhee and Rennie serenading a dapper-looking Foster with “Happy Birthday,” complete with a candle-laden cake.
“Happy Birthday to my sweetheart @davidfoster,” McPhee captioned the video. “I love you so much & thank you for this wonderful life and family. Was a very busy day & Dodgers winning tonight took the cake!”
Touring Together and Life on the Road
Looking ahead, the musical duo is set to embark on a joint tour this upcoming winter. The couple previously discussed the realities of life on the road in 2023.
“It’s been great,” Foster shared with Entertainment Tonight regarding their touring experience. “It’s a bit of a shlep.”
McPhee clarified, “Being together has not been the shlep. Just the constant packing and unpacking.
You wake up in a new city every day, and it’s just a grind. That’s the only part that sometimes wears on you.
And you just want to be in your own bed. But when we’re onstage for those two hours, it’s the best part of the whole thing.”
Parenting Philosophies
As parents to young Rennie, McPhee and Foster have openly discussed their differing approaches to discipline.
“I want to start disciplining [Rennie] and Kat’s not really down with that,” Foster told PEOPLE last year.
McPhee playfully countered, “No, that’s not true. I just want to discipline in my own way.
There’s the more old-fashioned way of disciplining, which involves time-outs and things like that. My take is that you can have more mindful parenting opposed to just assuming that a two or three-year-old can have time alone to reflect on what they’ve done poorly.”
