The Ultimate Fast-Food Breakfast Burrito Showdown: We Crown a Champion!
Let’s face it, breakfast is the unsung hero of the fast-food world. Whether you’re kicking off a busy workday or in desperate need of some post-party fuel, a good breakfast burrito can be a true morning savior.
But with so many drive-thru options, which one reigns supreme? We embarked on a delicious quest to find out, taste-testing six loaded breakfast burritos to help you decide where to grab your next morning meal.
(Prices and availability are subject to change, folks!)
And the Winner Is… Del Taco’s Egg and Cheese Breakfast Burrito!
Clocking in at a mere $2.99, Del Taco proves that sometimes, less is more. This burrito’s brilliance lies in its beautiful simplicity.
While you can jazz it up with bacon or steak (for an extra charge, naturally), our expert taster insists it’s unnecessary. The magic happens when Del Taco’s signature tangy red sauce soaks into the fluffy eggs and perfectly melted cheddar, all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla.
Pure, unadulterated breakfast bliss.
2. Sonic Drive-In’s SuperSONIC Breakfast Burrito
For $4.69, Sonic brings a wild array of breakfast options, but it’s the SuperSONIC burrito that truly shines. This bad boy is packed with crispy tater tots, fresh tomato, a kick of jalapeños, and just the right amount of cheese.
It’s the closest thing to a “real world” breakfast burrito you’ll find in the fast-food lane. Sonic, you nailed it!
3. Burger King’s The Egg-Normous Burrito
A surprising third place finish for the King, ringing in at $6.99. While our taster isn’t usually a Burger King devotee, their breakfast game is undeniably strong.
This burrito hits all the right notes with scrambled eggs, melty cheese, salsa, and bacon. But what elevates it are the “spicy sauce” and hash browns, adding a cheesy, tangy, and satisfyingly crunchy experience.
Consider us impressed!
4. Taco Bell’s Cheesy Toasted Breakfast Burrito With Bacon
At a budget-friendly $2.19, this Taco Bell offering is a solid contender. The bacon boasts a good smokiness, and the eggs are respectably fluffy.
As one of only two Mexican fast-food chains on the list, our taster expected a bit more oomph. Perhaps Taco Bell’s true breakfast stars lie in the Carne Asada Breakfast Crunchwrap or the Grande Toasted Breakfast Burrito.
5. Chick-fil-A’s Hash Brown Scramble Burrito
Oh, Chick-fil-A. At $4.95, our taster admits a misstep here.
In a moment of drive-thru panic, the “chicken” option was chosen for this burrito. And, well, it didn’t go so well.
The chicken and hash browns lacked any crunch, resulting in a “single-textured log of broken tortilla pieces.” While the eggs themselves were decent and the jalapeño salsa a welcome addition, the consensus is clear: chicken in a breakfast burrito is a no-go.
Stick to those legendary chicken biscuits, folks!
6. McDonald’s Sausage Burrito
Coming in last, for $2.49, is McDonald’s Sausage Burrito. While the Golden Arches usually dominate fast-food breakfast thanks to the iconic Egg McMuffin, this burrito falls short.
Our taster found it significantly worse than other McDonald’s offerings, noting that even the sausage seemed inferior to the patties in their breakfast sandwiches. It’s dry, the accompanying salsa is “almost as sweet as ketchup,” and the use of American cheese is a definite misstep.
Our advice? Avoid this one at all costs.
