Latinx Artists Shine Bright in 68th Grammy Nominations, Bad Bunny Makes History
Los Angeles, CA – The nominations for the 68th Grammy Awards, unveiled Friday morning, showcase a vibrant array of Latinx talent, with Puerto Rican sensation Bad Bunny leading the pack with a groundbreaking six nominations. His critically acclaimed album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” has etched his name in Grammy history as the first Spanish-language artist to garner nominations in several top-tier categories, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.
The 31-year-old artist’s nominations extend to Música Urbana Album, Global Music Performance for “EoO,” and the newly introduced Album Cover category. Bad Bunny, who already boasts three Grammys from ten previous nominations, is also a frontrunner at the upcoming 2025 Latin Grammy Awards, where he leads with twelve nominations. The Latin Grammys are set to take place on November 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Other notable Latinx nominees include:
- The Marías, the long-established L.A. indie group led by María Zardoya, earned their first-ever Grammy nomination in the New Artist category.
- Katseye, a global girl group featuring Venezuelan Cuban American artist Daniela Avanzini, also received a New Artist nod and a nomination in the Pop Duo/Group Performance category for their track “Gabriela.”
- Colombian hitmaker Karol G secured a Latin Pop Album nomination for her album “Tropicoqueta.”
- Prolific songwriter Edgar Barrera received his third consecutive nomination for Songwriter of the Year (Non-Classical), recognizing his extensive work with artists such as Karol G, Juanes, and Shakira.
- Argentine duo Ca7riel and Paco Amoroso garnered their first Grammy nomination for Latin Rock or Alternative Album for their EP, “Papota.” A win would make them the second Argentine group to triumph in this category.
- First-time nominees Fuerza Regida, the San Bernardino band, received a Música Mexicana Album nomination for their joint EP with Grupo Frontera, “Mala Mía,” and another in the same category for their album “Y Lo Que Viene.”
- Sacramento alt-metal group Deftones earned a Rock Album nomination for “Private Music,” marking their fourth overall Grammy nod and first in this specific category.
In a move to foster broader inclusivity, the Recording Academy recently extended an invitation to voting members of the Latin Recording Academy to join its 2025 new member class. Harvey Mason Jr., Chief Executive of the Recording Academy, commented on the significance of this expansion, stating, “This year’s class reflects the vibrancy of today’s diverse music landscape. The addition of many Latin Recording Academy voting members underscores that music has no borders and that our mission to serve music people, regardless of where they are from, is stronger than ever.”
The 68th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on February 1 at L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena, broadcasting live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ starting at 5 p.m. PT.
