Newsom Blasts Potential Government Shutdown Deal as “Pathetic Surrender”

Sacramento, CA – As reports surface of a potential deal to end the protracted government shutdown, California Governor Gavin Newsom isn’t mincing words, taking to social media to express his vehement disapproval of the proposed terms.

In a fiery post on Sunday, Governor Newsom reacted to the news, writing: “Pathetic. This isn’t a deal.

It’s a surrender. Don’t bend the knee!”

His strong statement comes amidst claims that Senate Republicans and Democrats have allegedly forged an agreement to conclude the 40-day shutdown.

While an end to the government shutdown might seem like a universally positive development, Newsom believes Democrats should stand firm and resist the current terms. This sentiment appears to resonate with many social media users, who view the reported deal as a capitulation by Democrats.

One X user passionately declared, “If Democrats cave, that’ll be my last straw. As God is my witness, so help me, if Dems cave in on this, I will switch from Democrat to Independent.

I’ve f—— had enough.” Another user echoed this sentiment, stating, “If Democrats bend the knee today.

This kills any momentum the Democrats gained over the past month. Horrible news.”

However, not all online commentators agreed with the Governor’s stance. One user, perhaps feeling the pinch of the shutdown, retorted, “Well, since you’re in your comfy governors’ mansion, would you like to pay my bills? We’re on our way to 3 missed paychecks.”

The government shutdown, which commenced on October 1, has had a widespread impact, affecting millions of Americans. Government employees have faced missed paychecks, while those relying on government aid, such as SNAP, have experienced disruptions.

Even civilian travel has been impacted, with airports regulated by the FAA feeling the ripple effects. The shutdown’s reach can subtly disrupt various aspects of daily life, including mail services.

In other news, Governor Newsom recently garnered attention for bestowing a new nickname upon President Trump, dubbing him “The Nodfather” after the President appeared to doze off during an Oval Office event last week. Viral images of Trump, 79, seemingly nodding off have since become fodder for online memes, with internet users playfully trolling the president amid ongoing concerns about his health.

The White House previously addressed concerns about President Trump’s health earlier this year after images circulated depicting his swollen ankles and bruised hand. Officials attributed these to chronic venous insufficiency, a largely non-threatening condition and a side effect of his aspirin regimen.

The “Nodfather” meme reached its peak when Newsom’s official press office shared an edited image spoofing “The Godfather” movie poster, featuring President Trump’s likeness. “Saw this. had to share,” the Governor Newsom Press Office’s official X account posted on Saturday, accompanying the image.

The origin of the image remains unclear. The spoof image compiled six different instances of President Trump appearing to nod off at various public events in recent months.
