JFK’s Grandson, Jack Schlossberg, Throws Hat in Ring for 2026 Congressional Race
New York, NY – The political landscape of New York’s 12th congressional district is heating up for 2026, as Jack Schlossberg, grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, announced his bid for a House seat late Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Democrat aims to succeed Rep. Jerry Nadler, who previously declared he would not seek re-election.
Schlossberg, whose full name is John Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg, launched his campaign with a clear focus on economic issues, taking aim at the Republican agenda and former President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” He contends that these policies have fueled a “cost of living crisis” and resulted in “cuts to social programs working families rely on, including healthcare, education, and childcare.”
“We deserve better, and we can do better, and it starts with the Democratic Party winning back control of the House of Representatives,” Schlossberg stated in an Instagram announcement. He further emphasized the importance of a Democratic majority in Congress, asserting, “With control of Congress, there’s nothing we can’t do.
Without it, we’re helpless to a third term.” This latter comment comes after the current president recently acknowledged he cannot run for a third term, a possibility he had previously not ruled out.
A graduate of both Yale and Harvard, Schlossberg is positioning himself as a strong Democratic voice. A press release from his campaign highlighted his active role as a surrogate for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris across the country, as well as his speaking engagement at the most recent Democratic National Convention, underscoring his deep ties to the party.
