- Texas state trooper scolds South Carolina wide receiver after touchdown; department speaks out (foxnews.com)
A Texas state trooper found himself benched from game-day duties this past Saturday after a heated exchange with South Carolina’s Nyck Harbor following a spectacular touchdown.
The incident unfolded after Harbor reeled in an 80-yard pass, sprinting into the end zone and then continuing his path into a tunnel at Kyle Field, clutching his right hamstring. Teammates joined him, and Harbor eventually emerged, walking gingerly back towards the field.
It was during this return that an officer intervened, making contact with Harbor and running back Oscar Adaway III. The officer then reportedly “scolded” Harbor, who, despite turning back, continued his progression towards the field.
The police department quickly responded, announcing on social media platform X that the officer had been “relieved of his game-day assignment and sent home.” The incident also drew criticism from NBA star LeBron James, who posted on X, “That A&M cop needs to suspended!
That was premeditated and corny AF!! He went out his way to start some s—.
Do better man.”
The touchdown that set off this chain of events initially put the Gamecocks up 27-3, a lead that soon extended to 30-3. However, the third-ranked Aggies mounted an incredible comeback, ultimately securing a dramatic 31-30 victory.
Texas A&M’s remarkable second-half performance saw them outscore South Carolina 28-0, marking the biggest comeback in the team’s history. Marcel Reed, despite a rough first half, threw for a career-high 439 yards and three touchdowns, propelling the Aggies to a 10-0 season record. This comeback surpassed a 21-point rally from a Johnny Manziel-led team in 2013 and defied statistics, as teams trailing by 27 points or more in SEC play since 2004 were previously 0-286.
The Aggies took their first lead of the game with about 11 minutes remaining on a 4-yard run by EJ Smith. Despite a late fumble by Jamarion Morrow on a trick play, the Texas A&M defense held strong, with sacks from Dalton Brooks and Cashius Howell and a crucial stop on fourth down, sealing the victory.
For South Carolina (3-7, 1-7), quarterback LaNorris Sellers threw for 246 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, as the team suffered its fifth consecutive loss.
