Elon Musk Predicts Money’s Demise in an AI-Driven Future
Washington D.C. – Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk offered a provocative glimpse into the future this Wednesday, suggesting that money itself could become obsolete if advancements in artificial intelligence and robotics continue their current trajectory.
Speaking at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum held at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Musk shared his long-term vision. “If you go out long enough, assuming there’s a continued improvement in AI and robotics, which seems likely, the money will stop being relevant at some point in the future,” Musk stated during his address.
While currency might fade, Musk emphasized that fundamental physical constraints, such as electricity and mass, would still remain. “The fundamental physics elements will still be constraints, but I think at some point currency becomes irrelevant,” he elaborated.
The U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum brought together a diverse group of “visionaries, leaders, and change-makers shaping the future of global investment,” with discussions spanning critical areas like AI, energy, healthcare, and finance.
Musk was joined on stage by Abdullah Alswaha, Saudi Arabia’s communications minister, and Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia Corp. Their discussion delved into cutting-edge topics including SpaceX’s reusable rocket technology, the emergence of humanoid robots, and the future of AI factories.
The forum also saw an appearance by President Donald Trump, who met with Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. The president had previously hosted the Crown Prince at the White House on Tuesday.
This isn’t Musk’s first encounter with Saudi leadership; the Tesla CEO previously met with bin Salman at a similar investment forum in Riyadh back in May. Tesla officially entered the Saudi market with a launch event at the Bujairi Terrace in April.
The U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum, described as “a bridge between two nations redefining what partnership means,” aims to celebrate a decade of collaborative growth, innovation, and trust between Saudi Arabia and the United States.
