Kourtney Kardashian Weighs in on Parenting, Hints at Divergence from Mom Kris Jenner’s Style

Los Angeles, CA – Kourtney Kardashian recently opened up about her parenting philosophy on the latest episode of “The Kardashians,” airing Thursday, November 27. Her reflections suggest a distinct approach compared to how she was raised by her mother, Kris Jenner, potentially sparking a lively family discussion.

During the episode, Kourtney hosted psychoanalyst Erica Komisar, an author invited to speak on effective parenting practices. Following Komisar’s insights, Kourtney, 46, shared her own thoughts on raising her children.

“I just heard something recently where it was like, ‘The things that you do that are the opposite of your parent is like, you’re healing yourself from something that you didn’t get, that you needed’,” Kourtney shared with friends, including Yris Palmer, who echoed the sentiment, “That’s how I feel. I feel like I’m the opposite of my mom.” Kourtney readily agreed.

In a confessional, Kourtney elaborated on her distinct style. “I am a lot different as a mother than my mom was.

She was definitely more controlling and still is. But it was the 80s then, it was a different time.

To me, like, I’m just like, ‘Live your best lives guys!'”

This comes on the heels of Kris Jenner, 70, recently discussing her own parenting approach on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast. Kris revealed she views her children as friends, eschewing traditional parent-child roles.

“I didn’t have kids to on their 18th birthday kick them out of the house,” she stated, adding, “My girlfriend used to say, ‘You’re too nice. You know, you’re not their friend.

You’re their mother.’ And I looked at her, and I said, ‘Oh, no.

I’m their friend.'” Kris explained her reasoning, saying, “They’re going to be 18 one day, and I’m not going to be left out of this big, beautiful life that I want to have with them.”

However, the generational gap in parenting philosophies has been evident before. In a prior episode of “The Kardashians,” Kris expressed disapproval of Kourtney co-sleeping with her baby, Rocky Thirteen Barker.

“This is a different generation,” Kris remarked, recalling, “We didn’t co-sleep in the ’80s, no, we didn’t. We had structure.

We had schedules. We had mealtimes.

We put our kids to bed at 7 o’clock. And then we go to dinner and have some grown up time and it was a wonderful life.”

Kourtney, in turn, defended her approach, stating, “With my babies and my husband, I have a desire to slow down. It’s nice to actually linger in a moment, not rushing so you can experience everything. If you just slow everything down, then everyone can enjoy and experience things more together.”

It seems the dynamic between mother and daughter continues to offer viewers a glimpse into their differing perspectives on family life and child-rearing.
