Walmart Issues Urgent Recall on Camping Stoves and Helmets Due to Safety Concerns
Walmart has announced the urgent recall of two popular products – the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove and Outdoor Master children’s and youth helmets – following safety warnings issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Shoppers are strongly urged to return these items for a full refund due to potential safety hazards, with one product posing a risk of severe injury or even death.
According to a report from Newsweek, a Walmart spokesperson confirmed that the Outdoor Master helmets have not been available for purchase in stores since February. However, customers who purchased the Ozark Trail camping stove are advised to return it to their nearest Walmart location for a complete refund.
The Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove appears to be the more critical concern. There have been 26 reported incidents of the stove exploding or catching fire, with 16 of these resulting in second-degree burns.
Walmart has recalled approximately 201,000 units of this product, identified by model number BG2247A1. Manufactured by China Window Industry Co., Ltd., of Taipei, Taiwan, these stoves were sold both online and in stores across the country, with prices ranging from $8 to $45.
The other recalled item, Outdoor Master-branded children’s and youth helmets, was flagged by the CPSC for failing to meet mandatory safety standards for bicycle helmets. Imported by Maysun Products, Inc., of Chino, California, roughly 24,300 of these helmets have been recalled.
The CPSC noted that the helmets lacked proper positional stability and adequate head protection coverage. While no injuries have been reported in connection with these helmets, the recall underscores a proactive approach to consumer safety.
These helmets, which include Model OM-TD BIKE and Model OM-KSKB, were sold on Walmart and Amazon for $20 to $32.
A Walmart spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to consumer safety, stating, “The company has fully cooperated with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer of the impacted product to remove it from our stores and notify consumers of the recall. Purchasers of the recalled product are advised to discontinue use and return it to their nearest store for a full refund.”
Customers who have purchased either the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stove (model number BG2247A1) or the Outdoor Master children’s and youth helmets (Models OM-TD BIKE and OM-KSKB) should cease using them immediately and return them to any Walmart store for a full refund.
