Ertz Exits Game with Apparent Knee Injury, Commanders Fear ACL Tear

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz was visibly emotional as he was carted off the field during Sunday’s 31-0 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, following a concerning hit to his right knee.

With 2:05 remaining in the third quarter, Vikings safety Jay Ward made contact with Ertz’s knee as the Commanders’ veteran stretched for a high pass. Medical personnel immediately attended to Ertz, placing his leg in a full brace before he was taken off the sideline. The Commanders quickly ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

Post-game, Head Coach Dan Quinn expressed serious concern regarding the injury, stating that “the early signals aren’t good” when questioned about a potential torn ACL. Ertz is scheduled for an MRI on Monday to confirm the extent of the damage.

Ertz recorded one catch for 11 yards in Sunday’s contest. Should the feared ACL tear be confirmed, his season will likely conclude with 50 receptions for 504 yards and four touchdowns.
