Waymo’s Driverless Taxi Delivers More Than Just a Ride: A Baby Arrives!

In a truly unforgettable journey, a woman en route to the hospital in a Waymo autonomous taxi gave birth inside the vehicle before reaching her destination. The unexpected delivery unfolded on December 11th, according to Waymo, the company behind the self-driving service.

The expectant mother was on her way to the University of California San Francisco when her little one decided it was time to make an entrance, right there in the back seat of the Waymo car. The company’s Rider Support Team, alerted to unusual activity within the vehicle, swiftly contacted 911. By the time the driverless taxi pulled up to the hospital, the baby had already arrived.

“We’re proud to be a trusted ride for moments big and small, serving riders from just seconds old to many years young,” a Waymo representative shared with KRON-TV. “We wish the new family all the best, and we look forward to safely getting them where they’re going through many of life’s events.”

As for the specific vehicle involved in this unique birth story, Waymo confirmed to KTVU-TV that it was “immediately removed from service for cleaning” – a necessary step after such a special delivery!
