Local Shopkeeper Hailed as Hero After Disarming Gunman in Bondi Beach Terror Attack

Sydney, Australia – A local shopkeeper is being lauded as a hero after fearlessly disarming a gunman during Sunday’s horrific terror attack at Bondi Beach. Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, a father of two and owner of a fruit store in Sutherland, is reportedly the man captured on social media video who bravely intervened in the anti-Semitic assault.

The attack, which tragically claimed at least 11 lives and injured 29, unfolded simultaneously with a Hanukkah celebration attended by hundreds. Al Ahmed, despite having no prior firearms training, was simply passing by when he chose to act.

Social media footage shows the dramatic moment al Ahmed, dressed in a white shirt and black pants, strategically approaches one of the suspected shooters from behind a car. He then charges, putting the suspect in a headlock and engaging in a struggle before seizing the weapon.

The video captures the suspect falling back as al Ahmed holds the weapon, pointing it, with police sirens audible in the background. The suspect then slowly retreats, and al Ahmed places the gun down, leaning it against a tree.

According to his cousin, Mustafa, al Ahmed sustained two gunshot wounds during his heroic intervention and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Outpouring of Support for Al Ahmed’s Bravery

News of al Ahmed’s courageous actions quickly spread, leading to an overwhelming outpouring of support across social media platforms. Thousands of users praised his bravery, with many calling for significant recognition.

“Modern hero. He should not have to work for the rest of his life already Australia.

Give the guy the pension he deserves,” one X user wrote. Another commented, “This man ran towards danger to save others lives, bravery indeed.

Wishing him a full recovery.” Suggestions ranged from awarding him a medal of honor to the Cross of Valour, with one user stating, “Give this man every Honorary Medal in Australia.”
