The film depicted Charlie’s journey through rehab and the growing frustration of his father, an actor-turned-politician, portrayed by Cary Elwes.
Nick Reiner co-wrote the script for “Being Charlie” with fellow addict Matt Elisofon during his four years in a Los Angeles rehab facility. After initial rejection as a TV series, they approached Rob Reiner to direct it as a feature film.
