Shots Fired Near JFK Airport After Fender-Bender Escalates

New York authorities are currently investigating a dramatic incident near John F. Kennedy Airport where a minor car accident escalated into a Customs and Border Protection officer discharging his firearm. The event, which unfolded early Tuesday morning, has prompted a police probe and temporary traffic disruptions.

According to reports, an on-duty CBP officer was involved in a two-car fender-bender on the Van Wyck Expressway just before 5 a.m. EST.

The officer stated that following the collision, the other driver allegedly attacked him, prompting him to fire his service weapon multiple times at the individual. The other driver then fled the scene.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the shooting, and the individual who fled has yet to be apprehended.

The incident led to the closure of most southbound lanes of the Van Wyck Expressway for several hours as investigators processed the scene. The lanes were reopened to traffic around 7 a.m. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.
