Timothée Chalamet’s Surprising British Favorites Include Susan Boyle

Hollywood heartthrob Timothée Chalamet, currently generating Oscar buzz for his role in the upcoming film Marty Supreme, has revealed his top five favorite British personalities, and one name on the list has certainly raised eyebrows: none other than singer Susan Boyle.

Chalamet, 29, compiled a list of British stars he considers “the greats.” Alongside expected entries like Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and power couple David and Victoria Beckham, he also named hip-hop artist Fakemink and, perhaps most notably, Susan Boyle. Boyle shot to international fame in 2009 with her stunning audition on Britain’s Got Talent.

The Scottish singer, now 64, finished as a runner-up on the ITV competition but quickly secured a recording deal, going on to release two albums that hit number one in the United States. Chalamet reminisced about Boyle’s viral rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Misérables, which captivated judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, and Piers Morgan.

“She dreamt bigger than any of us,” Chalamet stated, adding that the clip of her performance “was like the advent of YouTube.” He continued, “Who wasn’t moved by that?

I remember that like it was yesterday.” Chalamet would have been 14 years old when Boyle first graced the Britain’s Got Talent stage.

Chalamet’s latest cinematic endeavor, Marty Supreme, sees him portray professional table tennis player Marty Mauser, who secured US men’s singles championships in 1958 and 1960. Critics are already raving, with The Independent‘s Clarisse Loughrey giving the film a five-star review and hailing Chalamet as “one of our greatest talents.”

Directed by Josh Safdie, known for his work with brother Benny on films like Good Time (2017) and Uncut Gems (2019), Marty Supreme is slated for a Christmas Day release in the US. Benny Safdie’s own film this year, The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, has also garnered Oscar buzz after a 15-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival.

Chalamet is among several actors vying for a Best Actor Oscar nomination, including Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent and Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another. This would mark Chalamet’s third Oscar nomination, following nods for Call Me by Your Name (2017) and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
