Urgent Recall: Popular Pain Ointment Poses Serious Risk to Children

Nationwide Alert Issued for Mamisan Pain-Relieving Topical Ointment Sold at Walmart and Target

Local consumers are being urged to check their medicine cabinets following the recall of a popular pain-relieving ointment sold at major retailers like Walmart and Target. The Mamisan Pain-Relieving Topical Ointment has been pulled from shelves due to a critical packaging flaw that could lead to severe illness or even death in children.

The concern centers on the product’s non-child-resistant packaging. The ointment contains lidocaine, a substance that, if ingested by children, can cause serious poisoning. While no incidents of illness or harm have been reported to date, federal agencies and retailers are taking proactive measures to prevent potential tragedies.

The recalled product is identifiable by its orange container with a white continuous thread lid, featuring the Mamisan trademark on both the lid and label. Only jars with the UPC 860006498115 are affected by this recall.

What to Do If You Have the Recalled Ointment:

  • Keep out of reach of children: Immediately secure the product away from any child’s access.
  • Contact Plantimex: The manufacturer is offering a free replacement child-resistant lid.
  • Do not dispose of the product: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the replacement lid.

The ointment was sold nationwide from April 2024 through October 2025, with an estimated 50,000 units affected by this recall. Consumers who purchased the product for approximately $10 are encouraged to take immediate action.

This recall highlights the critical importance of child-resistant packaging for medications. Local health officials remind parents and guardians to always store all medications securely and out of sight and reach of young children.

In other recall news, a separate health alert has been issued for MR.7 SUPER 7000, manufactured by StuffbyNainax LLC. This product has been recalled due to the undeclared presence of sildenafil and tadalafil.

These ingredients, commonly found in prescription medications like Viagra and Cialis, can pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals taking nitrates for heart conditions or high blood pressure. The interaction could lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure, potentially resulting in life-threatening complications.

Consumers are advised to discontinue use immediately and consult with their healthcare provider.
