Captain America Returns, Teaser Hints at Paternity in “Avengers: Doomsday”
The First Avenger is officially back, and it looks like he might be a dad! Marvel Studios has finally dropped the highly anticipated first teaser for “Avengers: Doomsday,” confirming the return of Chris Evans as the beloved super-soldier Steve Rogers.
The brief clip offers a glimpse of Rogers arriving at a house on his motorcycle, contemplating his old Captain America uniform before gently cradling an infant and smiling. The teaser concludes with the definitive message: “Steve Rogers will return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’,” followed by a countdown to the movie’s release.
Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who shared the teaser on their joint Instagram page, captioned it with nostalgic words: “The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together.
It was always going to come back to this…” The Russo brothers are no strangers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having directed “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), and the climactic “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019).
Rogers was last seen in “Endgame” passing the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) after choosing to live a long and happy life in the past with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Despite Evans’ previous farewell to the character, Joe Russo had hinted that Evans was “not done” with Steve Rogers.
While Evans’ return to the MCU for “Doomsday” had been previously reported, his specific role remained a mystery. Last year, he even reprised his role as Johnny Storm from the “Fantastic Four” films in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
“Avengers: Doomsday” is set to pick up after the events of this year’s “Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Thunderbolts*.” This massive crossover event will see Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, take on the new character of the enigmatic Doctor Doom. The confirmed cast for “Doomsday” boasts a formidable lineup of MCU veterans including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki).
The film will also feature stars from “Thunderbolts*” such as Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Lewis Pullman (Bob Reynolds), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), alongside the cast of “Fantastic Four” including Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm). Adding to the excitement, “Doomsday” will incorporate actors from the “X-Men” franchise, including Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique).
“Avengers: Doomsday” is slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
