Chevy Chase’s Near-Death Experience Revealed in New Documentary
A new CNN documentary, “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not,” is set to reveal that iconic comedian Chevy Chase was placed in a medically induced coma for eight days in 2021 after suffering heart failure. The film, premiering on January 1st, delves into the harrowing five-week hospitalization of the 82-year-old star.
Chase’s daughter, Caley, shared details of her father’s critical condition with CNN, stating he “has basically come back from the dead.” She added that the beloved “Vacation,” “Caddyshack,” and “Saturday Night Live” alum still experiences some memory loss.
Caley recounted the dire warnings from doctors: “We might not get him back. We don’t know how present he’ll be.
Prepare yourselves for the worst.” She described his initial recovery, noting, “He woke up, all he could do was use his voice.”
A moment of levity, however, signaled Chase’s return to form. Caley recalled a nurse entering his room with medical equipment and saying, “I’m going to have to put this in here.” Without missing a beat, Chase delivered his signature comedic timing with the retort, “That’s what she said.”
