Ellen DeGeneres Returns to L.A. with a Fresh Look and a Tale of Woe from Across the Pond

Los Angeles, CA – After a brief, shall we say, “pastoral interlude” in the United Kingdom, comedian and former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has been spotted back on familiar Californian soil, sporting a brand-new platinum blonde hairstyle that’s turning heads.

DeGeneres, 67, was recently photographed running errands in Montecito with wife Portia de Rossi, her signature blonde pixie cut now a vibrant, youthful platinum. This isn’t the first hair transformation for DeGeneres, who briefly embraced a darker, more natural shade around 2019-2020, reportedly due to hair damage. But it seems the call of the blonde was too strong to resist, perfectly complementing her casual-chic ensemble of dark wash jeans, a loose white t-shirt, an army green jacket, and white sneakers.

Her refreshed look coincides with her return to the U.S. after a year-long venture into English country life that, by all accounts, was less “Downton Abbey” and more “Green Acres.” The couple had relocated to the Cotswolds in November 2024, settling into a sprawling $16.6 million property boasting 43 acres and its very own farm.

However, the idyllic farm life proved to be a bit more demanding than anticipated. In a candid interview with journalist Richard Bacon in Cheltenham, DeGeneres confessed to missing her Californian roots and admitted, “We just can’t keep up with this.”

She recounted a litany of woes, from unpredictable weather and maggot-infested sheep to runaway horses and renovation headaches. One particular sheep saga involved Portia’s innocent suggestion to get four sheep for the pastures.

“The next morning they were just out and they were gone,” DeGeneres explained, leading to a series of escalating – and ultimately futile – attempts at containment. “I spent so much money on those sheep,” she lamented, “I can’t even tell you how much those sheep cost.

It was Portia’s idea.”

Before their brief stint overseas, DeGeneres and de Rossi had established deep roots in California, with DeGeneres hosting her immensely popular talk show for over two decades, which concluded in 2022. Now, with the trials of country living behind them, it seems the Golden State has welcomed back one of its own, refreshed and ready for whatever comes next – hopefully, something a little less sheep-intensive.
