Timothée Chalamet’s Critics’ Choice Win Sparks Fan Outcry Over Film’s Recent Release

Hollywood heartthrob Timothée Chalamet is finding himself in the hot seat with moviegoers after taking home the Best Actor award at the recent Critics’ Choice Awards. The win, for his role as table tennis phenom Marty Mauser in the film Marty Supreme, has ignited a firestorm of debate across social media, with many questioning the fairness of the accolade given the movie’s incredibly recent release.

Marty Supreme, which hit theaters on December 25th, has indeed been a hit with audiences, earning praise for Chalamet’s portrayal of the aspiring athlete. However, the film’s brief theatrical run – just over a week – before the awards ceremony has left many fans scratching their heads.

Chalamet edged out strong contenders, including Michael B. Jordan for his dual role in Sinners and Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, making his triumph all the more contentious.

Social media platforms, particularly X, quickly became a hub for disgruntled fans. “Marty Supreme just came out so how is Chalamet winning awards for the role already?”

one user questioned, adding, “Don’t get me wrong, I like Timothée Chalamet but Best Actor should’ve went to Michael B. Jordan.

Hands down.”

Another echoed the sentiment, stating, “Why did Marty Supreme not only get nominated but won at the #CriticsChoiceAwards if it just came out literally last week!! It makes no sense Whats really going on behind the scenes.

There were so many better movies like wicked should have won idc.” The confusion continued with comments like, “Congrats to little Tim Tim but …. how can marty supreme be nominated if that s*** was just released to the public like last week???

Is there something I’m missing here?” and “Genuinely curious as to how Marty supreme can receive awards this award cycle when it JUST came out?”

One user succinctly put it: “Timothée Chalamet was good in Marty Supreme but I promise you he wasn’t better than Michael B Jordan in Sinners, plus that movie only just came out.”

Amidst the controversy, Chalamet used his acceptance speech to make a rare public declaration of love for his longtime girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. An emotional Chalamet expressed, “Thank you to my partner for three years.

I love you. I couldn’t do this without you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” The camera then captured Jenner in the audience, mouthing “I love you” back to the actor.

Marty Supreme tells the story of Marty Mauser, a 1950s New York shoe salesman who dreams of becoming a professional table tennis player. The narrative is loosely inspired by the life of real-life table tennis legend Martin Reisman.

In his speech, Chalamet also admitted to feeling “more nervous than I thought I’d be,” before extending his gratitude to director Josh Safdie. He praised Safdie for crafting “a story about a flawed man with a relatable dream, and you didn’t preach to the audience about what’s right and wrong. I think we should all be telling stories like that.”
