Nikki Glaser Takes Aim at CBS News During Golden Globes Monologue

Comedian Nikki Glaser didn’t hold back during her monologue at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, taking a jab at CBS News and playfully renaming it the home of “BS news.”

“And the award for ‘Most Editing’ goes to CBS News. Yes, CBS News, America’s newest place to see BS news,” Glaser quipped, drawing attention to recent controversies surrounding the network.

Over the past year, CBS has faced scrutiny over its editorial practices and a change in ownership that brought new leadership to the forefront. Critics have accused the network of losing its journalistic credibility amidst these shifts.

One notable incident involved Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who in September accused CBS of editing her “Face the Nation” interview. In response, CBS News announced a policy change, stating that all “Face the Nation” interviews would henceforth be broadcast live or live-to-tape.

However, the network’s editing controversies predate this incident. Former President Donald Trump previously accused CBS of altering an interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, alleging “election interference” in favor of the Democratic candidate ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Trump subsequently sued the network, leading to CBS’s parent company agreeing to a $16 million settlement with him prior to its merger with Skydance Media.

The irony of Glaser’s remarks was not lost on viewers, as the Golden Globe Awards ceremony itself was aired on CBS and streamed on Paramount+, the network’s parent company.

Since the settlement with Trump, CBS News has also faced backlash from liberal commentators. Many accuse the network of acquiescing to the Trump administration, particularly under the new leadership of Paramount CEO David Ellison. Ellison has made revitalizing CBS News a priority, notably appointing The Free Press founder Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief in October.

Weiss herself has become a target of progressive commentators, who have criticized her significant behind-the-scenes decisions, including the controversial pulling of a “60 Minutes” segment just hours before its scheduled broadcast.
