Tomlin Taking a Break: Steelers Owner Confirms Coach’s Hiatus

Pittsburgh, PA – Steelers owner Art Rooney II addressed the swirling rumors about Mike Tomlin’s future on Wednesday, confirming that the recently departed head coach plans to step away from the sidelines, at least for the foreseeable future. This announcement aligns with widespread speculation since Tomlin’s resignation on Tuesday after 19 seasons with the team.

Rooney stated that Tomlin conveyed his intentions to take a break from coaching when he informed the owner of his decision to leave the Steelers. “Mike indicated that he did not anticipate coaching, at least in the near future,” Rooney shared.

“I think he wants to spend time with his family and do some of the kinds of things he hasn’t been able to do for the last many, many years. If something like that comes up, we’ll deal with it when it comes up.

But, right now, that doesn’t seem to be on his radar.”

The Steelers still hold Tomlin’s contractual rights, a point Rooney subtly touched upon. However, given Tomlin’s desire for a break, it appears there will be ample time to sort out any potential future interest before he considers returning to the coaching ranks.
