Hip-hop legend and “Law and Order” star Ice-T recently weighed in on the ongoing protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), offering some candid advice to demonstrators amidst rising tensions.
The 67-year-old rapper, spotted in New York City on Tuesday, January 27, fielded questions from TMZ while signing autographs. When asked if he’d updated his iconic protest anthem “Cop Killer” to “ICE Killer” for recent performances, Ice-T clarified that the “ICE Killer” reference was from an older Los Angeles show, dating back to a time when the federal agency had a heavy presence in the Californian city.
TMZ then pressed Ice-T for his thoughts on the “crazy” and “disturbing scenes” unfolding in Minneapolis, where two civilians have died. “It’s crazy, it’s crazy what’s going on, and the fact that two people are dead,” he responded. “I mean, I don’t think anybody can agree with that under any circumstances.”
The publication’s final question, as reported by the Irish Star, sought a message from Ice-T to his supporters in Minneapolis. His advice was direct: “Stand strong and stay out of the way and stuff.
These cats will kill you. And it ain’t worth it right now, you know….
The object is a peaceful protest and stuff. But you gotta understand it, these other cats ain’t that peaceful.”
The unrest in Minneapolis began after President Donald Trump deployed ICE agents to the city, citing alleged childcare fraud within the Somali community. Residents initially protested the presence of ICE and their immigration enforcement operations.
The situation tragically escalated on January 7 when ICE agent Jonathan Ross fatally shot Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old poet, mother of three, and legal observer, during an ICE raid. Her death sparked broader demonstrations, demanding justice and accountability for ICE’s actions.
Tensions mounted further with the death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, who was shot multiple times by US Border Patrol agents after being tackled and restrained. Witness footage reportedly shows Alex recording officers, directing traffic, and assisting a woman shoved by an agent. Both Renee’s and Alex’s deaths were captured on video.
The Trump administration has asserted that agents acted in self-defense in both incidents, labeling Renee and Alex “domestic terrorists.”
