Urgent Plea Issued for Missing Mother of “Today” Co-Host Savannah Guthrie Amid Abduction Fears
TUCSON, Ariz. – The family of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, has made an emotional public appeal for her safe return, urging anyone with information about the 84-year-old’s whereabouts to come forward. Arizona investigators are treating her disappearance as a crime, and reports of a possible ransom demand have surfaced.
In a heartfelt Instagram message, Savannah Guthrie, joined by her siblings, described their mother as the “heart of our family” and emphasized her fragile health and urgent need for medication.
“Our mom is a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light,” Savannah Guthrie shared, highlighting her mother’s vibrant personality and deep connections with her grandchildren. “She’s funny, spunky…
She loves fun and adventure. She is a devoted friend.
She is full of kindness and knowledge. Talk to her and you’ll see.”
The family acknowledged media reports of a ransom letter, stating, “As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk.”
However, they stressed the need for undeniable proof of Nancy Guthrie’s well-being: “We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen.
Please reach out to us.”
Annie Guthrie, speaking through tears, directly addressed her mother, conveying the family’s profound distress. “We are always going to be merely human, just normal human people who need our mom.
Momma. Momma, if you’re listening, we need you to come home.
We miss you.”
Savannah Guthrie also offered words of comfort and faith directly to her mother, saying, “Mommy? If you are hearing this, you are a strong woman…
Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere. We will not rest, your children will not rest until we are together again.”
The search for Nancy Guthrie received a significant boost with an announcement from President Donald Trump, who stated on Truth Social that he has directed “ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY.” He added, “We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely.
The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY!”
Earlier in the day, investigators from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department returned to Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson residence, establishing a crime scene with yellow tape and deploying K-9 units. While the specific reasons for their return four days after her disappearance remain unclear, the department confirmed they were “conducting follow-up” at the home. Law enforcement also visited the home of Savannah Guthrie’s sister, Annie Guthrie, bringing in equipment.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her Tucson home around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Her absence from Sunday church service prompted concern, leading family members to discover her disappearance. Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed on Monday that “we do, in fact, have a crime,” and a law enforcement source indicated “blood drops” were found leading from the entryway of her home towards the driveway.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has stated that investigators believe Nancy Guthrie was “taken from the home against her will and that includes possible kidnapping or abduction.” During a Tuesday news conference, Sheriff Nanos declined to answer specific questions about a ransom demand but affirmed that “we are following all leads we have.
That’s all I can tell you. We’ve got hundreds of leads.”
He added that investigators are considering both targeted and random abduction scenarios.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department later acknowledged reports of a possible ransom note after TMZ reportedly received written correspondence demanding a “substantial amount” of money.
The White House also issued a statement regarding the ongoing search, urging anyone with information to contact 911 and extending prayers to the Guthrie family for Nancy’s safe return.
Savannah Guthrie’s initial Instagram post on Monday expressed the family’s reliance on faith and community support: “We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope.
We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity.
Above all, we believe in Him. Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant.
Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”
