Beloved Teacher Emily Rose Browning Dies After Night Out
CARDIFF, Wales – A young teacher described as “kind” and “beautiful” tragically passed away in December 2024 after consuming cocaine and alcohol during a night out, an inquest has revealed. Emily Rose Browning, 24, was found collapsed at her home by her boyfriend after returning from an evening with friends.
According to Coroner Graeme Hughes, Browning had been socializing at home before heading into Cardiff city center on December 7, 2024. During this time, she consumed both alcohol and cocaine. Friends present noted she became intermittently unwell, raising concerns for her welfare.
Upon returning home, Browning’s boyfriend discovered her unresponsive on the bedroom floor. Emergency services were immediately contacted, and she was rushed to the University Hospital of Wales. She passed away three days later, on December 10.
The coroner stated that Browning likely choked on her own vomit. The official medical cause of death was attributed to a brain injury related to oxygen deprivation, with underlying causes including aspiration and acute alcohol and cocaine intoxication. Coroner Hughes concluded it as an alcohol and and drug-related death, citing the “intoxicating effects of alcohol and illicit drug use, leading to aspiration of vomit, cardiac arrest, and a devastating hypoxic brain injury.”
Browning, who taught at Gladstone Primary School in Cardiff, was originally from Somerset and had moved to Cardiff after completing degrees in criminology and psychology. Her school paid a heartfelt tribute, expressing deep sadness at the loss of a “beloved teacher whose kindness, passion, and dedication left a lasting impact on every child, colleague, and parent.”
In honor of her memory, Gladstone Primary School announced plans to create a memorial garden. This garden is intended to be a “space for reflection, joy, and growth,” embodying Emily’s values of nurturing curiosity, creativity, and well-being.
Browning’s boyfriend, Jack Weston, initiated a fundraiser to support the memorial garden, which has since raised over $55,000. The fundraiser’s description highlighted her impact: “She was a kind, caring, beautiful young lady who lived life to the full, and the happiness she brought to those who loved her will be forever eternal.” It also noted her dedication to teaching across South Wales, “helping to shape so many young minds along the way.”
