Pima County Sheriff Vows Unwavering Commitment to Finding Missing Grandmother Nancy Guthrie, Even If It Takes “Years”
Tucson, AZ – The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who vanished from her Tucson home, continues with undeterred resolve, even as authorities acknowledge the investigation could stretch on for “years.” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos reiterated his department’s firm commitment to locating the missing grandmother, stating, “We won’t quit.
We’re going to find Nancy. We’re going to find this guy.”
Sheriff Nanos’s remarks, made on February 13, underscore the challenges faced by investigators, despite recent developments in the case. This includes the revelation of a secret codeword reportedly used in communications with abductors, as disclosed by a former FBI agent.
In a recent operation, three individuals were taken into custody during a SWAT raid in Shadow Hills, near Tucson. Two were apprehended at a residence, while a third was stopped in traffic. However, all three have since been released, and no arrests have been directly linked to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Adding to the ongoing investigation, a silver Range Rover was thoroughly inspected in a Culver’s parking lot and subsequently towed by authorities in the early hours of February 14.
A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a federally mandated search warrant was executed on the Shadow Hills property based on a received lead. Details surrounding this operation remain scarce, with the spokesperson stating, “There are no further details available at this time.”
A neighbor to the searched residence, David Curl, told the New York Times that an elderly woman and her adult son reside at the home. Curl described the woman as “distraught” during the police operation, asserting she had no knowledge of the disappearance or why her home was being targeted.
These developments follow the discovery of unidentified DNA at Nancy Guthrie’s upscale Tucson residence. A Sheriff’s Department spokesperson confirmed the DNA was “collected from the property” but declined to specify its location, emphasizing that investigators are working to identify the individual.
Furthermore, gloves and other case-related materials are currently undergoing forensic examination. Sheriff Nanos acknowledged that his department is utilizing a forensic facility in Florida, approximately 2,000 miles away, for these analyses, rather than a local Tucson facility.
