Jacob Elordi Shuns Social Media, Prioritizing Real Life Over Hollywood Hype

Hollywood’s latest leading man, Jacob Elordi, may be a constant presence on the silver screen, but don’t expect to find him scrolling through feeds online. The 28-year-old actor, known for his roles in “Euphoria,” “Saltburn,” and “Priscilla,” recently shared his steadfast refusal to let the entertainment industry dictate his personal life, a sentiment increasingly echoed by his Gen Z peers.

In a candid interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Elordi made it clear that his relationship with social media is, in his words, nonexistent. “My dream was to be an actor.

My dream was to play in the movies… I’ve been given exactly what I wanted, and I see it exactly how I dreamed it, and I live it how I dreamed it,” Elordi explained to correspondent Tracy Smith.

“So for me, that’s about all I can handle.”

While Elordi has maintained an Instagram account in the past, he’s notorious for frequently deactivating it, with his current hiatus extending since late 2024. For the Australian star, this digital detachment is a deliberate strategy to prevent Hollywood from consuming his entire identity. Despite his escalating fame, he asserts that these boundaries allow him to navigate his private life largely undisturbed.

“I have a pretty strong refusal to lose my life to an industry, you know. I consider myself an actor and just an actor,” he stated.

“And so for me, life kind of goes on outside the set, and outside of these lights and cameras and things. I don’t have too much trouble in the world.”

Elordi emphasized that even with constant media attention, his status as a Hollywood actor barely registers in his daily existence. “It doesn’t really factor into my reality, you know,” he said.

“I have so much love in my life, and the relationships I have in my life are so present and real. I was raised in such a sort of authentic and true way.”

This isn’t Elordi’s first time addressing the pressures of fame and social media. In 2022, he revealed to GQ that the sudden influx of 4 million Instagram followers following his breakout role in Netflix’s “The Kissing Booth” nearly led him to quit acting altogether.

“I hated being a character to the public. I felt so far from myself,” he confessed.

Elordi isn’t an anomaly among his generation. Other Gen Z actors are also vocal about maintaining an offline presence.

In 2025, Mia Threapleton shared that her mother, Oscar-winner Kate Winslet, encouraged her to weigh the pros and cons of joining Instagram at age 14. “The cons completely outweighed the pros for me.

That was quite a clarifying moment,” Threapleton recounted. “Since then, the more time I spend in this world, the more I’m really happy that I don’t have it.”

This trend extends beyond Hollywood, with a growing number of Gen Zers actively choosing a more unplugged lifestyle. From swapping smartphones for “dumb phones” to transforming cellphones into makeshift landlines and even hosting “anti-social media parties,” the generation often stereotyped as digitally native is increasingly embracing the benefits of disconnecting.
