Klaebo Skis into History Books, Matching Phelps’ Gold Medal Haul
TESERO, Italy – Norway’s Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo etched his name further into Olympic lore today, clinching his tenth career cross-country skiing gold medal at the Milan Cortina Olympics. This monumental achievement sets a new Winter Games record and places him in an elite club alongside U.S. swimming icon Michael Phelps as the only Olympians to reach double-digit gold medals.
The 29-year-old Norwegian, paired with Einar Hedegart, dominated the men’s team sprint, securing his fifth gold of the 2026 Games. The duo crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 18 minutes, 28.9 seconds.
Team USA’s Ben Ogden and Gus Schumacher delivered a strong performance, earning the silver medal just 1.4 seconds behind the Norwegians. Italy’s Elia Barp and Federico Pellegrino rounded out the podium, securing the bronze 3.3 seconds back.
Klaebo’s remarkable run at these Games has seen him win every race he’s entered, including breaking the Winter Olympics record in Sunday’s 4 x 7.5-kilometer relay. He is set to compete in his final race of the Games, the 50-kilometer mass start, this weekend.
In the women’s competition, Sweden’s Jonna Sundling and Maja Dahlqvist continued their nation’s winning streak, taking home the gold. Switzerland’s Nadja Kaelin and Nadine Faehndrich claimed the silver, while Germany’s Laura Gimmler and Coletta Rydzek secured the bronze. Norway narrowly missed the podium, finishing in fourth place.
American Jessie Diggins, alongside partner Julia Kern, set a strong pace early in the women’s race but ultimately finished in fifth place.
