DC Studios Head James Gunn Shoots Down “Batman – Part III” Fast-Track Rumors

Hollywood, CA – DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has swiftly debunked recent rumors suggesting an expedited production schedule for “The Batman – Part III,” the highly anticipated sequel starring Robert Pattinson. The speculation arose from reports claiming DC Studios aimed to rush the film to avoid conflicting with their upcoming “The Brave and The Bold” project, which will feature a different iteration of Batman and introduce Robin.

Gunn took to Threads to clarify the situation, stating, “I don’t know what that is but I’m not fast tracking anything other than our scripts currently getting ready to go into production.” When confronted with information from an X influencer regarding the alleged fast-tracking, Gunn further clarified, “That’s incorrect. Well I mean I don’t know if it’s incorrect that DPK was told that, but the information is incorrect.”

“The Batman – Part II” is currently in pre-production, with Robert Pattinson confirmed to return as the caped crusader under director Matt Reeves. Actor Colin Farrell, who portrays The Penguin, has offered tantalizing hints about the sequel, suggesting it will be “deeper” and “scarier” than the critically acclaimed 2022 original.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell revealed, “I’ve got an even smaller role in this one. But I’m OK with that…

I’ve read the script, from start to finish, and I can’t say much about it. But it’s deeper, scarier, the stakes are bigger.

I’m really excited to see it. I love that world.”

He expressed his lifelong affection for the Batman universe, citing his early exposure to “Batman ’66” and the portrayals of The Penguin by Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito. “Honestly, just to be in something that takes place in Gotham, where a character called Bruce Wayne and Batman exist, is such a joy for me,” Farrell added.

In related news, Christina Hodson, known for her screenwriting contributions to “Bumblebee,” “Birds of Prey,” and “The Flash,” was confirmed last month to be penning the script for “The Brave and The Bold.” This upcoming film, drawing inspiration from Grant Morrison’s comic books, will introduce Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s previously unknown son and a formidable Robin.

Sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter indicate that Hodson has been developing the screenplay since at least last autumn. However, insiders suggest that DC Studios is proceeding with caution, implying that a finalized script may still be some time away.

Gunn and Peter Safran initially announced “The Brave and The Bold” in January 2023, explicitly stating that Robert Pattinson would not be portraying this particular Batman. Gunn described the project as “the introduction of the DCU Batman, of Bruce Wayne, and also introduces Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a b****,” calling it “a very strange father-and-son story.”
