Salt Lake City is mourning the loss of Robert Cosby Jr., son of “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Mary Cosby, who passed away on Monday at the age of 23.

Authorities were called to a “possible overdose” at approximately 6:14 p.m., where they discovered Robert Cosby Jr. had died. The Salt Lake City police department confirmed the death, stating that the medical examiner is actively investigating the cause as the case remains open.

Mary Cosby broke her silence on Wednesday, sharing a heartfelt message on Instagram: “Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”

Bravo, the network behind “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” also released a statement: “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Mary’s beloved son, Robert Jr. Mary is a cherished member of our family, and our thoughts, love, and deepest condolences are with her and her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Robert Cosby Jr.’s struggles with addiction issues were publicly documented on the reality show. During a season 6 reunion episode, his mother revealed that he was in jail following an arrest for allegedly violating a restraining order related to his estranged wife, Alexiana Smokoff.

He was released from the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on February 3, with his lawyer emphasizing his client’s “deep regret regarding his prior actions” and commitment to “taking responsibility, engaging in therapy and securing employment.” As part of his release, Robert was ordered to 36 months of probation and 75 hours of community service.

Late last year, Smokoff filed for divorce after three years of marriage, a union that was also a storyline during season 4 of “RHOSLC.”
