Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling certainly knows how to make a birthday special! The actor surprised his wife, Eva Mendes, with a charming serenade during his appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday.
Gosling, 45, was on the show to drum up excitement for his upcoming film, Project Hail Mary, which hits theaters on March 20. In the sci-fi flick, Gosling plays a science teacher tasked with the monumental mission of saving the world from a dying sun, befriending an alien along the way. Sandra Huller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub also star.
But it wasn’t just about movie promotion. To mark both the film’s theme and Mendes’ birthday, the Fallon audience was packed with teachers.
“It is Eva’s birthday today. She’s here.
You have no idea how much she loves teachers,” Gosling revealed to the audience. He then popped the question: “If I get her, would you sing happy birthday to her?”
And sing they did! When Mendes graced the stage, she was met with a joyous “Happy Birthday” from the audience, amplified by a spirited performance from a high school marching band.
Gosling and Mendes, who tied the knot in 2022, previously co-starred in the film The Place Beyond the Pines. Talk about a sweet and star-studded birthday celebration!
