Trujillo, Peru – A pre-dawn bombing at the Dali nightclub in Trujillo province on Saturday left 33 individuals injured, including several minors, according to local authorities. The explosion occurred in a region of Peru’s northern coast that has recently grappled with a surge in violence and criminal activity.

The motive behind the attack and the identities of those responsible remain unknown. Gerardo Florián Gómez, executive director of the Trujillo Health Network, reported that at least five of the injured are in serious condition, having sustained amputations and shrapnel wounds requiring surgery. Among the wounded are three minors: a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds.

This incident marks the second explosion in Trujillo within the past month. A previous blast in the city caused damage to 25 homes but resulted in no injuries or fatalities.

The La Libertad region, which encompasses Trujillo, is a hub for illegal mining and extortion, particularly in its Andean sector, home to Peru’s most significant gold-producing area. Official figures indicate that the region experienced 286 explosions in 2025, with 136 of those occurring within the city of Trujillo itself. The growing presence of organized criminal groups is believed to be driving the increase in related crimes, including extortion.
