Michigan Man Convicted in Wife’s Murder After Remains Found in Fertilizer Tank

Lenawee County, MI – A years-long, nationally scrutinized case concluded this week as a Michigan jury found Dale Warner guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the death of his wife, Dee Warner. Her remains were discovered earlier this year inside an “out of service” farm fertilizer tank.

Dale Warner was charged with murder in 2023, more than two years after Dee Warner, 52, vanished from her Franklin Township home in April 2021. The discovery of her body in rural Michigan in 2024 provided a grim resolution to the missing person’s investigation. An autopsy later confirmed Dee Warner was strangled and sustained blunt force trauma.

The disappearance and subsequent murder trial garnered significant attention, captivating audiences on true-crime podcasts and television shows. “Justice for Dee” signs and banners became a common sight throughout Lenawee County, located approximately 70 miles southwest of Detroit.

During the trial, prosecutors painted a picture of a strained marriage between Dee and Dale Warner. Prosecutor Jackie Wyse contended that Dale Warner made a series of “conscious decisions” following his wife’s death, including taping her mouth and nose, thereby preventing her from breathing.

Conversely, defense attorneys argued there was a lack of physical evidence directly linking Warner to his wife’s death. Defense attorney Mary Chartier highlighted Warner’s denial of harming his wife and his cooperation with investigators during the initial search.

Chartier urged the jury to focus solely on the evidence, stating, “You are not here to judge Mr. Warner as a husband.

You may think he was a bad husband, a not-very-attentive husband, whatever you may think of him.”

Despite the defense’s arguments for reasonable doubt, the jury ultimately delivered a guilty verdict, bringing a somber end to a case that has gripped the community and beyond.
