“Jeopardy!” Takes a Jab at Timothée Chalamet’s Ballet & Opera Remarks

America’s favorite trivia show, “Jeopardy!”, appears to be weighing in on the recent kerfuffle surrounding Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet’s comments on ballet and opera. The show subtly clapped back at Chalamet by sharing a video clip of contestants acing a “Ballet & Opera” category, playfully urging fans not to “escalate matters on social media.”

The clip, from an earlier episode this year, showcased all three contestants confidently selecting clues from the “Ballet & Opera” category. The questions covered renowned productions like “The Fairy Queen,” “Madame Butterfly,” and “The Nutcracker.”

While these might stump the average viewer, the contestants swiftly delivered correct answers, seemingly underscoring the enduring relevance of these art forms. The episode itself made no direct mention of Chalamet, but the Instagram caption, “NOBODY @ HIM 👀,” paired with the hashtag “#timotheechalamet,” left little doubt about the show’s playful intent.

This “Jeopardy!” moment stems from Chalamet’s controversial remarks during a Variety & CNN Town Hall on February 24.

In a discussion with fellow actor Matthew McConaughey about the challenges facing movie theaters, Chalamet expressed his disinterest in working in “dying art forms.” He stated, “I don’t want to be working in ballet, or opera, or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though like no one cares about this anymore.'”

The actor quickly attempted to backtrack, adding, “All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there. I just lost 14 cents in viewership.

I just took shots for no reason,” acknowledging his potential misstep.

Chalamet’s comments swiftly drew considerable criticism from both fans and figures within the arts community. Grammy Award-winning opera singer Isabelle Leonard, for instance, voiced her disapproval in the comments section of the YouTube interview, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. She wrote, “Honestly, I’m shocked that someone so seemingly successful can be so ineloquent and narrow-minded in his views about art while considering himself an artist, as I would only imagine one would as an actor.”

The “Jeopardy!” category has now become the latest public platform to join the conversation, with fans on social media largely appreciating the show’s indirect jab.

User @urkillinme_smalls commented, “Thank you for this petty clap back on behalf of the opera and ballet community! @jeopardy,” while @aunty_colleen_4 exclaimed, “Jeopardy to the arts: I got your back.”

Despite the caption’s plea, some users took the opportunity to directly challenge Chalamet. “Dying art ehh????

They flew through those answers!” noted @hello.emy_.

Another fan, @hgsmom, declared, “And just like that, Jeopardy won the day!” It seems “Jeopardy!”

has successfully stirred the pot, proving that even a trivia show can have a little fun with celebrity commentary.
