Tucson, AZ – The community continues its vigilant search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, who has been missing for nearly 50 days. Residents and supporters are united in a plea to the public: do not lose hope in bringing her home.

Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson-area residence on February 1st. Authorities believe she was abducted from her Catalina Foothills home, as evidence of a violent struggle, including blood, was found near the entrance. The disappearance remains a high-priority investigation.

As the search enters its seventh week, the community has rallied to wear yellow ribbons, symbolizing hope and solidarity with the Guthrie family. This widespread display of support comes amid recent developments in the investigation, including reports of an individual fleeing the neighborhood within days of the suspected kidnapping.

The significance of these yellow ribbons was highlighted in a recent segment on News 4 Tucson KVOA-TV, titled “Bring Her Home: The Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie,” which aired on Saturday, March 21st. The feature underscored the collective sentiment.

“It has been nearly two months since Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Catalina Foothills home without a trace,” the KVOA-TV feature stated. “Southern Arizonans and the nation have been rallying around the Guthrie family to send messages of love and hope. The community is united with one plea: Bring Her Home.”

Local reporter Robbie Reynold, speaking on the segment, explained the organic growth of the movement: “It all started with one yellow ribbon. And then dozens more, handmade and sent to Tucson; the woman who made them calling them ‘Ribbons of Hope.'”

These yellow ribbons have quickly become a powerful symbol of hope and community resolve in the search for the beloved mother of three. The movement has garnered national attention, with Savannah Guthrie’s Today show co-stars, including Craig Melvin and Hoda Kotb, wearing the ribbons on air in a show of support.

Melanie, the woman behind the “Ribbons of Hope,” shared her motivation. “We just hope that it brings awareness to the public as media slows down to remember to keep a watchful eye and ear out and just to remember that she’s still missing,” she said. Melanie and her friend Regina began this “labor of love” in 2003 during the disappearance of Laci Peterson in California, and later for Natalee Holloway in 2005, making the ribbons for various high-profile missing persons cases.

“I’ve been praying through every ribbon I make for answers,” Melanie added. The initial batch of yellow ribbons was distributed to the KVOA-TV station and has since spread throughout the community. Local establishments like El Charro CafĂ©, a restaurant where Nancy Guthrie once filmed a segment for the Today show, have embraced the initiative, with employees pinning the small yellow ribbons to their uniforms as a visible sign of support for the Guthrie family.

The ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie continues to draw parallels and renewed interest in other mysterious disappearances, including that of a missing Air Force general, due to several chilling similarities in the cases.
