Savannah Guthrie Eyeing April Return to Today Show Amid Mother’s Ongoing Disappearance
Savannah Guthrie may be poised for a return to her anchor desk at NBC’s Today show as early as next month, according to reports. The 54-year-old anchor reportedly hopes to resume her duties after her children’s spring break concludes, with New York City schools reconvening on April 10.
Guthrie has been away from the program since February 1, 2026, following the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, from her Tucson, Arizona, home. Her absence has seen her spend time with family, including her husband Michael Feldman and their two children, navigating what has become a deeply distressing ordeal. The news follows recent developments in the case, including a neighbor reportedly sharing suspicions regarding the disappearance.
The search for Nancy Guthrie has now surpassed 50 days, with authorities yet to identify any public suspects or announce significant breakthroughs. Her disappearance is being investigated as a potential abduction, prompted by the discovery of blood near her home’s entrance, suggesting a violent struggle.
Guthrie joined the Today show in 2011 and has been a main co-anchor on the popular daytime program since 2012. During her absence, her longtime co-anchor and friend, Hoda Kotb, has been filling in alongside Craig Melvin.
However, another source indicated that no official return date has been set, stating that Kotb will continue to fill in, supported by a rotating lineup of guest hosts as required.
In an emotional visit to Studio 1A in Rockefeller Center on March 5, Guthrie expressed her gratitude to her colleagues, thanking them for “caring about my mom as much as I do.” She also reaffirmed her commitment to returning to her role, regardless of the outcome of her mother’s case.
“I have every intention of coming back,” she stated. “I don’t know how to come back, but I don’t know how not to.
You’re my family. And I would like to try.”
Guthrie’s final appearance on the program was Friday, January 30, just two days before her mother was reported missing. Due to the family crisis, she also withdrew from hosting duties at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, with Kotb doing the same in solidarity.
Savannah and her siblings have appealed for their mother’s safe return, offering a $1 million reward for information leading to her location. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest in connection with Nancy’s disappearance. The case has drawn comparisons to the mysterious disappearance of an Air Force general due to several chilling similarities.
