Tom Felton Passes the Torch to New Draco Malfoy in Upcoming HBO ‘Harry Potter’ Series
Tom Felton, famed for his role as Draco Malfoy in the original Harry Potter films, is embracing a new chapter by offering his support to Lox Pratt, the young actor stepping into the iconic role for HBO’s forthcoming adaptation.
On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Felton revealed that rather than dispensing specific acting advice, he simply shared his contact details with Pratt and his family. “The last thing I’m going to do is offer anything other than say, ‘Here’s my phone number.
Here’s my address,'” Felton said. “This is your journey.
Have as much fun as possible. Take as many pictures as you can.
Steal as many props as you can. They’ll be worth a fortune.
But if you need a word of encouragement or have questions, I’m there.”
The new HBO series will retell J.K. Rowling’s beloved story with a fresh cast, revisiting the magical world with a new perspective. While Felton steps back from his role on screen, he continues to portray an older Draco Malfoy on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a sequel set 19 years after the events of the original series.
Felton joins a group of original Harry Potter stars who have reached out to their HBO successors. Daniel Radcliffe shared on Good Morning America that he sent a letter to Dominic McLaughlin, the actor playing Harry Potter, expressing his best wishes.
“I do not want to be a specter in the lives of these children at all,” Radcliffe said. “I just wanted to say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did.’”
Similarly, Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, told the BBC he wrote a letter to Alastair Stout, his successor, wishing him the best as he took on the role.
The HBO adaptation also features Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Snape. The series is set to premiere at Christmas 2026, with the first trailer already sparking excitement among fans eager to return to the wizarding world.
