Production on Amazon’s Tomb Raider Series Pauses as Sophie Turner Recovers from Minor Injury
Filming of Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider TV series has been temporarily halted after lead actress Sophie Turner sustained a minor injury on set. Turner, best known for her role in Game of Thrones, is playing the iconic adventurer Lara Croft in this adaptation of the popular video game franchise.
According to reports, the 30-year-old actress suffered a setback related to a pre-existing back issue that has been aggravated by the physically demanding nature of the role. Production sources indicate that Turner is expected to be back on set within two weeks as she takes time to recuperate. In the meantime, crew members continue to be paid while preparing for the resumption of filming.
Turner has spoken openly about the intense training regimen she underwent in preparation for the role, which involved long hours of physical conditioning five days a week. She shared earlier this year that the rigorous schedule revealed an ongoing back problem that she had been unaware of, making her transformation into Lara Croft both a physical and mental challenge.
Joining Turner in the series are notable actors including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Bill Paterson. The showrunners Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Chad Hodge are at the helm, with Jonathan Van Tulleken directing and executive producing.
This new Tomb Raider series marks Turner as the third actress to bring Lara Croft to life in a live-action format, following Angelina Jolie’s portrayal in 2001 and Alicia Vikander’s in 2018. Turner has expressed her admiration for the character, describing Lara Croft as a powerful female role model in a traditionally male-dominated arena.
As fans await the continuation of production, Amazon has already offered a glimpse of Turner in character, generating excitement for the series’ debut. With the talented ensemble cast and experienced creative team, the Tomb Raider adaptation aims to deliver a fresh and thrilling take on the beloved franchise.
