Hiker Airlifted from Arizona Mountain After More Than 100 Bee Stings

Phoenix, AZ – Medical rescue teams airlifted an adult male hiker from Lookout Mountain near Phoenix on Saturday after he suffered over 100 bee stings and was unable to descend on his own.

The Phoenix Fire Department responded to the emergency around 10 a.m. following reports of the injured hiker near the summit. Rescue crews located the man and transported him via Firebird 10 helicopter to the trailhead, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to a nearby hospital. The patient’s condition remained critical, and no updates were available as of Sunday.

Lookout Mountain, a smaller and less crowded alternative to nearby North Mountain, offers scenic views but fewer hikers. The incident comes amid growing concerns about bee swarms in the Phoenix area.

Just last month, several people were stung during a lacrosse game at Arizona State University, with one person requiring hospitalization. The nearby City of Tempe issued warnings after receiving multiple bee-related emergency calls.

In response to Saturday’s rescue, the Phoenix Fire Department advised the public to avoid disturbing bee hives, refrain from using scented products outdoors, wear light-colored clothing, and if encountering a swarm, to quickly move away while protecting the head and face.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the community remains alert to the increased bee activity.
