The cause of death for Dylan Carter, a 24-year-old singer and recent contestant on NBC’s The Voice, has been officially confirmed. Carter tragically died from blunt force injuries sustained in a single-car accident in South Carolina on the night of April 25.
According to the Colleton County coroner, his death was ruled accidental. Notably, Carter was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, which occurred approximately an hour outside Charleston.
Carter was scheduled to perform at the Music on Main event in Town on Moncks Corner on April 27, but the event has since been cancelled in light of his passing. The news of his death was shared by The Local Voice, a nonprofit organization he co-founded to support women battling cancer. This loss follows another recent tragedy involving a former contestant from The Voice.
Details from law enforcement indicate that Carter was driving a 2026 Tesla sedan southbound on U.S. Route 21 shortly after 11 p.m. when his vehicle veered off the road, hitting a pole and a fence before rolling over. Carter was the sole occupant and later died at the hospital from his injuries.
In a heartfelt statement, The Local Voice expressed their sorrow, saying, “Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day.
Through his music, kindness, and smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor.”
Originally from St. George in Dorchester County, South Carolina, Carter competed on Season 24 of The Voice.
During his audition, he performed Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You,” impressing all four judges and ultimately joining Reba McEntire’s team. He revealed that his performance was a tribute to his mother, who passed away in 2022, and shared that he had auditioned for the show twice before.
Carter spoke openly about the emotional connection he felt while singing the song on the show, noting that although he couldn’t complete it at his mother’s funeral due to his emotions, he felt her presence with him during the audition. “After hearing and seeing them all turn, my confidence grew. I felt on top of the world,” he said.
Beyond his music career, Carter was deeply involved in his community through his charity work and also worked as a realtor and co-owner of an RV park and campground. His sister-in-law, Stephanie Harper, paid tribute to him on social media, writing, “Wake us up from this nightmare.
Life will never be the same without my best friend. Will miss you forever, Dyl.”
