Mysterious Object Spotted in 1972 Moon Photo Sparks New UFO Questions

Additional Coverage:

The Department of Defense released a new batch of classified UFO documents on Friday, featuring a striking image from a NASA photograph taken during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972. The photo, captured on the Moon’s surface, shows a mysterious object highlighted by a yellow box, where three lights appear above the lunar landscape.

The Pentagon noted in its statement that there is no clear explanation for the anomaly, but preliminary analysis suggests it could be a physical object. This revelation follows recent claims by a Pentagon whistleblower who shared a high-resolution image purported to show an alien mothership, sparking renewed interest and debate about extraterrestrial life. Additionally, other intriguing findings, such as what some describe as an ‘alien head,’ have surfaced recently.

Among the newly released documents is an image of a football-shaped Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), further fueling curiosity about unexplained aerial phenomena.

Last week, former President Donald Trump announced that the Pentagon was preparing to disclose “very interesting” UFO files uncovered during his administration. This announcement stirred a mix of excitement and skepticism, as it hinted at potential breakthroughs in the government’s understanding of extraterrestrial matters.

Earlier this year, Trump directed federal agencies to release their records on UFOs and extraterrestrial life. Since then, anticipation has grown, with Trump promising the release of previously unseen documents.

“We’re going to be releasing a lot of things that we haven’t,” he said at a White House event honoring NASA astronauts. “I think some of it’s going to be very interesting to people.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized the commitment to transparency in a statement accompanying Friday’s release. “The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena,” he said. “These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation – and it’s time the American people see it for themselves.”

Friday’s documents include photographs from unresolved cases where the phenomena remain unidentified, often due to insufficient data. The Department of War welcomed private-sector involvement to analyze these mysteries and pledged to continue reporting on resolved cases as required by law. One released FBI interview detailed a drone pilot’s sighting of a “linear object” emitting a bright light visible for five to ten seconds before disappearing in September 2023.

The initial release consists of 162 files, comprising State Department cables, FBI records, and NASA transcripts from crewed space missions. The Pentagon has been working for years to declassify UFO-related materials, and Congress established a dedicated office in 2022 to oversee the process. The office’s 2024 inaugural report documented hundreds of new UAP incidents but found no definitive evidence that the government has verified any extraterrestrial technology.

These disclosures arrive amid ongoing scientific discoveries, including suggestions that alien life could exist on Saturn’s moon, further intensifying the public’s fascination with the unknown. Alongside these developments, reports of an ‘alien’ sphere adorned with mysterious inscriptions have emerged, sparking conversations about humanity’s place in the universe.
