LA Mayoral Hopeful Spencer Pratt Spent $10 Million Preparing for 2012 Apocalypse

Los Angeles mayoral hopeful and former reality TV star Spencer Pratt has revealed that he spent his $10 million fortune preparing for the world’s supposed end in 2012, a revelation that has resurfaced amid his current political campaign.

Pratt, 42, who gained fame on MTV’s “The Hills,” is currently polling in second place in the race to become Los Angeles mayor, trailing only incumbent Karen Bass as the June primary approaches. He announced his candidacy earlier this year, roughly a year after losing his Pacific Palisades home in the catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires. Pratt has since garnered endorsements from celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Rob Schneider, and Taylor Lautner.

Despite his rising political profile, Pratt’s past spending habits have drawn renewed attention. In a 2013 interview, he admitted that he and his wife, Heidi Montag, spent their reality TV earnings in anticipation of the 2012 Mayan apocalypse. At the height of “The Hills,” Pratt earned approximately $175,000 per episode, and the couple reportedly made around $2 million annually through appearances and photoshoots.

Reflecting on those times, Pratt explained, “We heard the planet was going to end in 2012. We thought we had to spend this money before the asteroid hits.”

He later humorously cautioned, “Here’s some advice: definitely do not spend your money thinking asteroids are coming. The world didn’t end.”

Their expenditures included purchasing an armored truck, investing up to $1 million in crystals, paying $15,000 per night for security, and giving lavish gifts to friends. They also tipped doormen and valets $200 regularly to deplete their accounts, enjoyed $30,000 shopping sprees, and bought $4,000 bottles of wine.

As Pratt’s mayoral campaign gains momentum, social media users have expressed skepticism about his suitability for public office. Comments range from criticism of his extravagant past to concerns over his seriousness as a candidate. One user wrote, “We need serious people running for office, not these clown show rejects,” while another remarked, “Crystals and luxury hoarding have no place in managing a city.”

Pratt’s unconventional background and spending history are now under the microscope as Los Angeles voters prepare to head to the polls in just two weeks.
