Since stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have settled into life at their home in Montecito, California.
Recent discussions have focused on Prince Harry’s U.S. visa status, especially after he candidly revealed past drug use in his 2023 memoir, Spare. This has led to speculation about whether the couple might move back to the U.K. if Harry were to lose his American residency rights.
However, Meghan has long made it clear that she has no intention of returning to England. Author Omid Scobie, in his 2023 book Endgame, noted that the Duchess of Sussex “never felt at home” in the U.K. and “never wants to set foot again in England.”
Despite this, Meghan recently found herself back in the U.K. due to travel circumstances. A spokesperson confirmed that she attended the Lost Screen Memorial in Geneva, honoring children affected by social media. On her way home, Meghan stopped over in the U.K., a rare visit since the couple last traveled there together in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
Meghan shared a heartfelt Instagram story featuring a card from the British Airways flight crew, wishing the couple a happy wedding anniversary. She expressed gratitude for their kindness during the journey.
Since that 2022 trip, Prince Harry has made several solo visits to the U.K. These included attending King Charles’s coronation, visiting his father after the King’s cancer diagnosis, and attending the WellChild Awards last month. He also traveled alone to a Spencer family funeral this past summer, staying at Princess Diana’s childhood home with his uncle, Earl Charles Spencer.
Royal commentators remain skeptical about Meghan’s return to the U.K. Charles Rae, former Royal Correspondent for The Sun, told GB News that he doesn’t believe Meghan will ever choose to move back.
Rae remarked, “She’s had plenty of opportunities to return with the Duke of Sussex, and she’s decided she doesn’t want to.” He added that Meghan’s rare stopovers have been brief and that she appears settled in California for the foreseeable future.
