Secretary of State Marco Rubio celebrated his 55th birthday with a memorable surprise during an event in New Delhi, India, where Donald Trump’s favorite band, the Village People, serenaded him with a rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

Videos from the occasion show Rubio attempting to blow out candles on a towering four-tier birthday cake. After several tries on tiptoe, he resorted to using his fingers to extinguish the flames. Despite Rubio’s height being an average 5 feet 9 inches, the cake’s impressive height made the task a bit challenging.

The celebration took place at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi on Sunday, marking an early observance of the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

Alongside the music and festivities, U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor invited Rubio on stage, with enthusiastic attendees chanting his name.

Gor later praised the enduring partnership between the United States and India in a social media post.

Adding some humor to the event, Rubio joked that he couldn’t sing at the gathering due to an imaginary contract with Sony Music, teasing that perhaps he might perform at the 251st anniversary celebration instead. “All kidding aside, it’s an honor to be with all of you,” Rubio remarked.

Former President Donald Trump also participated via phone, expressing his strong support for India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He praised Rubio, calling him “the greatest secretary of state in the history of the U.S.” This call came just a day after Trump notably missed his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding.

The event underscored the ongoing close ties between the U.S. and India, highlighted by heartfelt celebrations and lighthearted moments alike.
