Las Vegas woman expected to be extradited from Mexico to face romance scam charges

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas woman on trial for murder in Mexico is expected to be extradited to the U.S. to face nearly a dozen federal charges connected to a string of deaths from 2019 to 2022.

Aurora Phelps — who has also used the names Aurora Flores, Aurora Velasco and Aurora Alvarez — has homes in Las Vegas and Guadalajara, Mexico, according to federal officials. She was charged in February 2025 in a 21-count indictment that alleged she lured older men she met through online dating services and stole from them.

The indictment came after a two-year investigation by the FBI’s Las Vegas Division. It alleged her activities as part of a romance scam “on steroids.”

“It was part of her scheme to drug the older men to gain unauthorized access to and steal money from their financial accounts to personally benefit herself and her family members,” the indictment said.
